First Lady Emine Erdoğan attended the “World Cities Day” event held in Istanbul with the theme of “financing a sustainable urban future for all”.

In a speech she delivered at the event, Mrs. Erdoğan wished Allah’s mercy upon the Palestinians who lost their lives during the merciless attacks Israel has been conducting in Gaza since October 7, and said that the humanity has been passing through very dark days.

Underscoring that a massacre has been carried out in front of the eyes of the entire world, First Lady Erdoğan noted: “Not only civilians are losing their lives in Palestine, but also the humanity’s common conscience and common hope are recklessly destroyed. We need more than ever such initiatives that will restore peace and stability and that will strengthen the culture of co-existence during these days when hatred, war and enmity rapidly spread. I wholeheartedly wish that this oppression immediately end, and peace and stability be established in the region.”

Noting that the importance of cities has acquired a different dimension in today’s modern world where urbanization is increasing at an unstoppable pace, First Lady Erdoğan added that researches show every 7 of 10 people will be living in cities by 2050.

Stressing that one of the many crises and challenges that are accompanying the rapid urbanization is the climate change, Mrs. Erdoğan drew attention to the importance of addressing today rather than the past and the future, and noted: “We have a great power in our hands against the climate crisis, which is quickly transforming our environment, and the countless problems that accompany it: This very moment!”

First Lady Erdoğan pointed out that it is time to build for everyone cities where sustainability, justice and prosperity prevail without waiting for 2030.
